Man held for attempt to rape 5-year-old girl

The Jaipur police have arrested a person for allegedly trying to rape a five-year-old girl near Bhakrota area in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to the police, the incident took place inside a marriage garden, where an employee of the facility had registered a case against an unknown person for trying to rape his daughter.

Deputy commissioner of police (west) Ashok Gupta said that in his complaint the marriage garden employee had said that after putting his daughter to sleep, he and his wife had locked their room and gone out to clean utensils.

“After the couple returned, they noticed that an air cooler near the window was in a different position in the room. After entering they found that one of their mobile phones and ₹700 was missing and someone had tried to molest their child,” said Gupta.

The police said that a special team was constituted to find out the culprit and more than four dozen suspects were questioned in the process. CCTV footage from the marriage garden was also being analysed.

“After going through all the evidence, we have arrested Govind Singh (19) who had gone to the marriage garden on Thursday night to unload some equipment. Cases have been registered against him under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said the police.
