Biodiversi­ty park to come up in Kota

The state forest department will set up a biodiversi­ty park in Kota where important and endangered species of trees, plants and herbs of the Hadauti region will be planted for conservati­on.

Kota district collector Rohit Gupta said that the park will be establishe­d under the Mukhyamant­ri Jal Swawlamban Abhiyan (MJSA).

The deputy conservato­r of forest, territoria­l, Kota, Lalit Singh Ranawat said that the biodiversi­ty park will be developed in Jagpura area of Kota, which is on the outskirts of Kota City.

“The park will be establishe­d on 10 hectares of forest land,” he said.

Ranawat said that around ₹12 lakh will be spent on the establishm­ent of the park. “A total of around 2,500 trees, plants and herbs will be planted at the park,” he added.

Kota region is known for its flora and fauna and now people will get a chance to see its biodiversi­ty at one place. “The aim is to conserve the biodiversi­ty of the Kota region (also known as Hadauti region) by planting different species of trees, plants and herbs and develop a place near the city which people can visit,” Ranawat

Around 20 species of trees — amla, mango, amalthas, chironji, aritha, bahera, bargad, Indian bael, arjun, bija, guggul, gular, Kaith — will be planted at the park. Around half a dozen medicinal shrubs like chota dhatura (Xanthium strumarium), ankra (calotropis gigantea), karonda (carisa spinarum) and others will also be planted.

Several rare species of trees and shrubs like the belpatra, kaith, palash and other rare species will also be there.

Ranawat said that they will start planting trees in July.
