POLICE SAID THAT A TOTAL OF 71 PEOPLE HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND TAKEN INTO PREVENTIVE CUSTODY FOR DISRUPTING THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION.

A day after dreaded gangster Anandpal Singh was killed in a police encounter, his native village in Nagaur remained tense.

Singh’s family members are sticking to their demand for a CBI probe into the encounter. On Sunday, they refused to take his body. On Monday, too, they stuck to their demands.

According to the police, a total of 71 people has been arrested and taken into preventive custody for disrupting the law and order situation. “We have arrested 71 people since Sunday when the protests began. A large number of police personnel have been deployed and strong action will be taken against anyone who tries to break the law,” Nagaur SP Paris Deshmukh said.

The SP added that a memorandum has been submitted to the district administration by the protestors. “Apart from a CBI probe, they have also demanded that Anandpal’s brothers, who were arrested on Saturday, be present at his cremation. Stone pelting has stopped and the situation is now under control,” said Deshmukh.

Inspector general of police, Ajmer range Malini Agarwal said that the cyber cell of the Rajasthan police is keeping a close watch on social media accounts, which seem to glorify Anandpal. “We are monitoring every account and post which glorifies the gangster or aims at disturbing peace,” Agarwal said.

She urged the public to notify the police if they come across any such activities on social media.

The Churu police have also arrested Shravan Singh and three women from his family on charges of disrupting government duty and sheltering a fugitive, officials said.
