The Chomu police on Tuesday arrested a pick-up driver for allegedly murdering a passenger over an argument about the fare.

According to the police, the incident took place around 9 pm on Monday when Mangal Chand, 30, and his brother asked for a lift from a pick-up truck driver.

“Following that they boarded on the pickup truck and headed towards Todi crossing. After reaching the crossing, an argument broke out between the passengers and the driver, Shivpal. The police said that after paying ₹10, Chand got down from the vehicle but an angry Shivpal drove way, with his brother still seated. “Chand was shocked to see Shivpal drive away with his brother and followed them by taking lift from another vehicle. After following it for around two kilometers, he finally managed to catch up with the truck,” said Singh. The police said that after intercepting the pick-up truck, Chand confronted the driver and an argument broke out .

The police said that after stabbing Chand, Shivpal fled the area.

“After the police were informed, we initiated a search for Shivpal and went to his house in Sikar. It was from there that we learnt that he went to Kaladera where he was finally arrested,” said Singh.

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC. “The relatives of the deceased staged a protest at Chomu on Tuesday demanding compensation. Several people donated to the family ,” said th SHO.
