People protesting against Anandpal’s death have past criminal record: Police

of those flocking to slain gangster Anandpal Singh’s village and demanding for a CBI enquiry into his death have criminal records, the police said on Tuesday.

Singh was killed during a raid by the special operation group (SOG) of Rajasthan police at Malasar in Churu district on Saturday.

“We had looked into the past criminal records of those who we took into preventive custody for creating ruckus after Singh’s death. We found that several of them have criminal cases registered against them,” Nagaur superinten­dent of police Paris Deshmukh said.

He added that till now more than 100 have been taken into preventive custody.

“On Tuesday, we arrested around 18 people who were disrupting the law and order situation. Many of those taken into preventive custody was arrested once again after we found video evidence of their involvemen­t stone pelting,” said Deshmukh.

The police also arrested a man from Jodhpur on Monday for objectiona­ble posts on Facebook.

Protests had erupted in Sanvrad, Singh’s native village in Nagaur district after the dreaded gangster was killed in the encounter.

The family members of Singh have refused to take his body until a CBI probe is ordered in the circumstan­ces surroundin­g his death.

Around 75 people were arrested on Sunday which was followed by 28 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

“We have deployed a large number of police personnel and strong action will be taken against any person who tries to break the law,” said the SP.

Meanwhile, the Rajput community members submitted a memorandum, in the name of President of India, to Ajmer district collector demanding a CBI probe in Anandpal encounter incident.

Singh carried a bounty of ₹5 lakh and had also injured a few police personnel in the gun battle which ended in his death. Spokespers­on of the SMS Hospital, SS Yadav said that a special medical board has been constitute­d for the treatment of Commando Sohan Singh, who was injured in the encounter.

The doctors said that at present his condition is stable.
