Be in city during Shah’s visit: BJP diktat to leaders

- HT Correspondent htraj@hindustantimes.com

Keeping in view BJP president Amit Shah’s three-day visit to Jaipur beginning July 21, the state unit of the party has asked its MLAs, state MPs and organisational heads to remain present in the city during his visit.

Shah, who is visiting Rajasthan as part of his 95-day national tour, will hold a series of meetings with the party members ranging from “booth-level workers to state-level leaders,” a senior party leader told HT. “The purpose of his visit is to further strengthen the party organisation in the state,” he said.

Though, the party is yet to release the official programme of Shah’s visit, it has planned a grand welcome rally from Jaipur airport. “About 1,000-1,500 motorcycle riders will be part of the cavalcade from the airport to the party office. He will be accorded welcome at 11 Assembly segments en route,” state BJP spokesperson Anand Sharma said. On July 21 evening, Shah will address a gathering at Birla Auditorium.

During his stay in the city, Shah will hold meetings with BJP ministers, MLAs and MPs. A series of meetings will be held during the next two days involving the party’s second-rung leadership. The party has already sent a report on the implementation status of its programmes in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders are keeping their fingers crossed over the Anandpal issue. They do not want any protests by the Rajput community during the visit. “The Rajput community has not announced any agitation so far. The police have done nothing wrong in killing a notorious criminal in self-defence after he failed to heed to call for surrender and started firing that resulted in injury to police personnel. We are prepared to deal with any agitation,” the senior party leader said.

A section of the Rajput community has been up in arms against the state government after the gangster was killed in a police encounter earlier this month. While the community has announced a ‘march to Jaipur’ it is yet to fix a date.
