This innovative technique of minimum invasive surgery is becoming a boon for unmarried girls and young women, who want good cosmetic results along with a diseasefree life.

Heart surgeons performed a rare surgery at a multi speciality hospital in Jaipur, saving the life of a 22-year- old IT professional.

Dr Vikram Goyal, Dr Rajeev Gehlot and Dr Deepak Sangtani of Metro MAS heart performed a minimally invasive aortic valve replacement on the youth (who did not want to be named).

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Dr Goyal said, “The youth had a very bad aortic disease, narrow aortic root and left ventricular dysfunction. The aortic valve was replaced through minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Aortic valve replacement is generally done conventionally through open heart surgery, but it was performed with MIS with less than three inches of incision on this youth.”

This team has also performed MIS on a seven-year-old boy with congenital heart disease. The boy’s weight was only 17kg and the team performed a rare surgery of femoro femoral cannulation and weight making.

“Open heart surgery is done with an incision in the middle of the chest ranging between 8 and 10 inches and the bone (sternum) is cut in between and rewiring is done after completion of the surgery. This wound takes around 1.5 months to heal leaving behind a scar,” said Dr Goyal. “This innovative technique of minimum invasive surgery is becoming a boon for unmarried girls and young women, who want good cosmetic results along with a disease-free life,” he added.

The major advantage of MIS is that incision is less than three inches, no bone cut, no rib damage, no cartilage disruption, no plate or wiring and not much stretching, hence minimal pain and no chances of bad scar.

The recovery in MIS is faster as the patient can be discharged after three days, while in normal open heart surgery, the patient has to stay in hospital for seven to 10 days.
