Kota coaching methodology is the best in the country and the environment a student gets here is incomparable.

Here, the students get whatever they ask for.

Lay Jain, a student of a coaching institute in Kota, has brought glory to India by winning gold at the 48th international physics Olympiad 2017 at Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Jain, a Class 12 student, is the second student from Kota to win a gold at an international Olympiad.

Earlier, Chitraang Murdia had won gold in 2014.

The international Physics Olympiad started in 1967 and India started participating in 1998.

This year, teams from more than 88 countries participated in the event, which started on July 16. Each team at the Olympiad consists of students selected after a selection process on a national level. In India, the selection is in four stages.

The first stage, called the national standard examination, is held around November.

More than 300 students in each subject qualify for the second stage, called the Indian National Olympiads.

For the third stage, called orientation-cum-selection camp, 35 students are selected for each science subject.

The fourth stage is a training stage held at the Home Bhabhi Centre for Science Education and a team of five students is chosen to represent the country at the international event.

Jain, a student of Allen Career Institute in Kota, won a bronze medal for India at the 18th Asian Physics Olympiad held at Yakutsk in Russia earlier this year. He got all-India rank 1 in the prestigious Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna - KVPY 2016 and has been an NTSE scholar.

Two years ago, he won gold for the country in the International Junior Science Olympiad.

“Kota coaching methodology is the best in the country and the environment a student gets here is incomparable. Here, the students get whatever they ask for,” said Lay.

His mother, Bhawna Jain, is a home maker while his father, Anil Kumar Jain, is an engineer with the Indian Railways.

Jain studies for more than six hours a day after attending coaching classes. He says he wants to go for research in Physics after graduation.

He has been studying in Kota since he was in Class 7.
