Ajmer MP and former Union minister Sanwar Lal Jat, who has been in a coma after he collapsed at a party meeting last Saturday, was shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi by an air ambulance on Thursday.

The 62-year-old leader was shifted as his health had started deteriorating.

Jat was shifted to the airport within eight minutes by making a green corridor and the air ambulance took off at 1.11pm. Two family members and three doctors from AIIMS, Delhi, went in the air ambulance.

He was given dialysis on Wednesday, but his condition continued to be critical. According to SMS Hospital superintendent, DS Meena, Jat’s conditioned deteriorated on Wednesday night and his family was informed. “Jat’s family members wanted to shift him to AIIMS Delhi for further treatment,” said Dr Meena.

“Tests and dialysis were performed on Wednesday but his condition is still critical and there is no recovery from coma,” Dr Meena added.

On July 22, Jat fell unconscious at the BJP headquarters around 1.50pm during a meeting with BJP national president Amit Shah and was admitted to the ICU at Sawai Man Singh Hospital. He had suffered a heart attack.

Neurologists and cardiologist from AIIMS had examined the 62-year-old Ajmer MP at the SMS hospital.

Jat, who was diabetic, was suffering from kidney and heart problems. He had served as minister of state for water resources in the Modi government before the cabinet reshuffle last year.

The leader was appointed as the chairman of the state Farmers’ Commission in October last year.
