IIS University accident: Police lodge cases, issue notice
have sent a notice to the IIS University over the death of a student on July 25 during a mountaineering training on its campus.
The unversity has been asked to inform the police about security and other arrangements during the training session when the accident took place.
Nineteen-year-old Aditi Sanghi fell to her death from the roof of the university during the training session. Along with her father Sunil Sanghi, Aditi was trained in mountaineering and had been learning the discipline since she was three-year-old.
The notice was sent after the police lodged cases against the university administration and the father of the girl, under whose supervision the training was taking place. “We analysed CCTV footage and also inspected the place of the accident. We found that there was clear negligence on part of the college which substantially increased the risk of such an incident,” said Deshraj Yadav, assistant commissioner of police, Mansarovar.
‘We have also learnt that the college administration didn’t make arrangements for a safety net beneath the roof where the mountaineeringactivitywastaking place. More details will come up as the probe progresses,” said the ACP.
During the inspection, it was noticed that the height of the wall on top of the roof from which the student fell to her death was only one feet, police said on Friday.
“The university administration didn’t notify any authority that such a training was taking place in the compound and also didn’t have emergency services stationed at the institution which could have helped in dealing with such an untoward incident,” said Yadav. The police have booked the administration and Sunil under sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence).
Aditi had done her bit of rock climbing demonstration when the accident had happened. Preliminary probe suggested that she lost her balance which led to her fall from the sixth floor which resulted in her death.
