Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah are killing democracy.

“Don’t know where Modi and Shah are taking the country. Everyone is fearful and is unaware what is going to happen tomorrow,” he added.

Addressing newspersons at his residence, the AICC general secretary, Gehlot while talking about the IT raids at a resort in Bengaluru, said, “I condemn the timing of the raids, where the 44 Gujarat MLAs are kept to avoid poaching by BJP. The raids are conducted to portray that Congress is involved in horse trading, which we have never done, but it is what BJP is known for,” he said.

He said for the first time it is seen that the notification issued for Rajya Sabha election was postponed and then NOTA was allowed. The government machinery is misused to threaten MLA in Gujarat, they were even offered ₹ 5-10 crores – relocating decision of MLAs was right by party. He added what has happened in Bihar and UP , and now at Gujarat is visible.

Gehlot also said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be visiting flood affected areas in Rajasthan (Sanchore and Jalore) and Gujarat (Banaskantha) on August 4. Hitting out at Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan, he alleged that the government’s attitude towards farmers is not right. “We demand that the farmers’ loan should be waived off like the UPA government had done. Despite announcing a minimum support price for crops, the government has not installed weighing scales, because of which the farmers have to sell produce to traders,” he said.
