situation in the floodaffected districts in southwestern Rajasthan is normalising with no rains in the last few days. The district administrations are still conducting rescue operations.

Disaster management and relief department secretary Hemant Gera said that the focus now is on relief works. The Sirohi district administration has submitted an estimate of ₹6.5 crore for road repairs. The government has already allotted ₹1 crore as a revolving fund to all four districts – Jalore, Sirohi, Pali and Barmer — to carry out relief activities under different heads.

He said that in addition to these, bills of cow shelters have been sanctioned on a priority basis for Jalore (₹19crore) and Barmer (₹7.5crore).

Jalore district collector Laxmi Narayan Soni said that the situation is improving and on Thursday compensation was paid to the family of five of the nine people who lost their lives in rain-related incidents.

The state has already sent the memorandum to the central government for ₹1563 crore assessed losses in the flood-affected districts.

Jodhpur divisional commissioner Ratan Lal Lahoti said, “The water has receded in all areas of the four districts, except Chitalwana in Jalore. Relief operations are on in full swing and wherever required food packets are being distributed. Medical teams are sent to the villages.”

Meanwhile, Sirohi zila pramukh, Payal Prasrampuriya is visiting remote areas affected by the floods and distributing clothes and food packets. The young Jila Pramukh, approached villages, which was still untouched by the relief teams.

“Around 22 villages had lost connectivity as the bridge from Abu Road had been damaged. In order to reach villages such as Nichlibor or Uplibor, we crossed Rajasthan border and via Ambaji and Koteshwar in Gujarat reached these villages,” said Parasrampuriya.

She said that though there is no water logging in these areas, however, there has been considerable damage to homes and crops of the tribals.

Relief work has begun and she has asked the officials to assess losses in these areas and resume road connectivity, she said. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at a few places in Kota and Udaipur while weather remained dry in Jaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner divisions of the state in last 24 hours, a MeT official said here. It rained at isolated places in Jodhpur and Bharatpur divisions of the state.
