A traffic cop was robbed of ₹ 25,000 challan money by his nephew and an associate in Jodhpur.

“My nephew, Ramkesh Meena and his associate tied my daughter to a chair and gagged her mouth and they opened our safe and took ₹25,000 of traffic challan money which was kept there before I could deposit it in the traffic police headquarters,” 44-year-old sub inspector Ramphool Meena told Hindustan Times.

Ramphool said the incident happened at his Police Lines residence, where families of cops live in official quarters. He was on duty and his daughter was alone in the house.

Police said Meena’s daughter recognised Ramkesh but couldn’t identify the other man whose face was covered.

“My daughter said the two men wanted to murder her to eliminate the witness, but couldn’t, as someone came looking for her (forcing them to flee),” Ramphool said.

The officer mentioned that his nephew was a history-sheeter and had a case registered against them after he ran away with a woman.

“My daughter said the men thought I might have a few photos of Ramkesh and the woman, and were searching for them ,” Ramphool said.

“A search for the two is on and a case of robbery has been registered,” said Ramesh Kumar Sharma, Ratanada police station chief in Jodhpur.
