8 WOMEN DEAD, 7 INJURED AS VEHICLE RAMS INTO TRUCK
Seven women were killed and seven others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh on Friday, police said.
The accident occurred when the victims were on their way to Dungarpur after offering prayers at the Kaila Devi Temple in Karauli district and Sanwaliaji Temple in Chittorgarh, said Chittorgarh superintendent of police Prasan Khamesra.
The deceased, all residents of Dungarpur, were identified as Shakuntala (46), Sunita (45), Vimla (35), Ranjna (47), Rekha (35), Indra (40) and Rameshwai (45). The injured, including the driver of the vehicle, have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of two persons is critical, he said.
The incident occurred at 5.30 am when the tempo traveller in which the victims were travelling, rammed into a stationary truck parked on the road side, police said. Six women died on the spot while another succumbed at the hospital.
Twenty-four women from Sagwada were travelling in two vehicles and when they reached near Badhsura circle in Chittorgarh, the driver of one of the vehicles, lost control and rammed into the truck, police said.
Police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation and rushed the injured to the MB government hospital in Udaipur.
Local residents said road mishaps on the stretch of the JaipurChittorghar highway, is common. They also blamed the police for not taking action against the drivers of the parked vehicles.
