Mukundra to get an enclosure for tigers
A tiger enclosure will be constructed at the Mukundra Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Kota for relocation of the first striped cat.
MTR announced as the third tiger reserve in Rajasthan in 2013 is yet to get the first tiger as the forest department is planning to relocate its first tiger by the end of this year.
The deputy conservator of forest, MTR, Kota, SR Yadav said, “The forest department has floated tenders for the construction of an enclosure in the Seljar forest range of MTR whose tenders will be opened next week. The enclosure will be constructed with an estimated amount of ₹50 lakh.”
This enclosure will be spread across two hectares of area with two equal partitions to keep a tiger and a tigress in each of the partitions. It will have a 12 feet high chain link fencing, two water points and one watch tower.
Prima facie the forest department has plans of shifting a pair of tigers from the Ranthambore National Park of Swai Modhupur district of Rajasthan. The forest department had established a separate enclosure of one hectare in Seljar area for keeping relocated ungulates including deer species for increasing prey base of tigers in MTR.
Apart from Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve of Kota, Rajasthan has two more tiger reserves, Ranthambhore National Park of Swai Madhopur and Sariska National Park of Alwar.
