NRI students from Belgium promote girls’ education

-

Six non-resident Indian students from Belgium are in Jaipur to promote girls’ education in India.

The students who live and study in different schools in Belgium, say they have collected more than ₹ 28 lakh to educate the girl child in India.

For the last five days, the sixmember team has been staging street plays in the rural areas of Jaipur, highlighting the importance of educating the girl child.

Arnav Kothari, one of the students, said, “We observed that in India, parents give more attention to educate their son rather than daughters, especially in the rural areas.”

“With a desire to change this thinking, our team started a fund raising campaign and decided to start an NGO called ‘Khilti Pari’,” he said.

Professional and amateurs artists from Belgium were approached for the social cause and they donated 400 paintings, which we sold at an exhibition to raise funds, he said.

The other members of the team, including Jaineet Sangvi, Brinda Patel, Sakshi Shah, Vidhi Parikh and Janvi Kakadia, have contributed for the cause by donating stationery items, uniforms and books.

The team is trying to change the mindset of the people through street plays and by distributing stationery items, books and helping in constructing toilets in schools and have visited rural areas in Jaipur. HTC
