Man who lost child to Gorakhpur seeks FIR against minister
IN HIS COMPLAINT, THE DAILY WAGER POINTED OUT LAXITY ON PART OF THE HOSPITAL, SAYING HIS CHILD DIED DUE TO DISRUPTION IN OXYGEN SUPPLY
Manager Rajbhar, a native of Bihar’s Gopalganj who lost his five year old child at BRD hospital due to lack of oxygen, has lodged a complaint at Ghularia police station seeking registration of an FIR against health minister Sidhdharthanath Singh, minister Ashutosh Tondon and health secretary in connection with the tragedy. However, no FIR was lodged by the police .
In his complaint on August 14, Rajbhar, a daily wager, has pointed out laxity on part of the BRD administration saying his child died due to disruption in oxygen supply .
“Had the oxygen supply not been interrupted, many children, including my son, would have been alive today. Since oxygen supply was halted due to non payment of outstanding dues to a firm, the government and its minister are responsible for the deaths,” said Rajbhar, who was accompanied by local Congress leaders to the police station, in his complaint.
SHO, Gulharia AK Mishra said, “Yes, we have received a complaint letter but no FIR could be registered. As per court’s order no complaint could be lodged against revenue officer until a probe is carried out.” A PIL seeking a judicial inquiry into the deaths at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur was filed before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday.
Social activist Nutan Thakur, who filed the PIL, appealed for the judicial inquiry, stating that the probe committee set up under the chief secretary will only toe the official line of the state government. She said a decision on whether the PIL will be admitted was likely on Friday.
Thakur said the PIL stated that the state government and its agencies were trying to negate the facts emerging in the media about the number of and reason for the deaths.
