RJD denies it was involved, 6 arrested

police arrested six suspects after an FIR was filed against nine persons by name and 100 others over an attack on deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi whose motorcade was stoned on Tuesday.

Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar said six persons were identified as Jugal Kishor Rai, Raj Kumar Rai-I, Anil Kumar Bhagat, Harendra Singh, Rama Singh and Mohan Rai. Three others named are absconding.

On Wednesday, after proper verificati­on and preliminar­y investigat­ion, Rajapakar police inspector Shiv Vijay Singh, under whose jurisdicti­on the incident took place, lodged an FIR on his statement against nine.

“The raids are on and all named and unknown and identified during the investigat­ion, will be arrested soon,” said Kumar. Police registered FIR under sections 147,149, 341,342,323,504,353 and 283 of IPC, which pertain to wrongful restraint, confinemen­t, assembly,use of force, pelting stones, using abusive language and restrictin­g people on government duty.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the party CM Nitish Kumar dumped last month to realign with the BJP, rejected allegation­s that its members were involved in the attack. Police sources said the arrests were made between Tuesday evening and early on Wednesday.

Taking pride over the Congress government conceptual­ising such a canteen, Gandhi said the intention was that the quality of food and cleanlines­s in it be the same as the most expensive restaurant­s in Bengaluru.

“I would like the government to pay special attention to this fact that the canteen should have excellent quality food, excellent hygiene and people walking out of this canteen must feel that they not only had safe food, but tasty food. I think we owe this to every single citizen,” he said.

“There are some very serious remarks made by the HC,” the court remarked.

Sibal initially objected to NIA probe and raised apprehensi­on over its credibilit­y as an independen­t agency. “I can file an affidavit pointing to so many U-turns it has taken in several cases,” Sibal contended.

To this, the CJI said: “If we order some other agency (to conduct the probe) there would be some opposition.” He then suggested the probe be supervised by a retired Supreme Court judge.

The senior counsel later agreed and the court said it will hear the matter after NIA completes its probe.

Jahan, who had married the woman in December last year, moved the top court after the HC scrapped his marriage saying that it was an insult to the independen­ce of women in the country.

Geelani’s two sons — Nayeem and Naseem — have already been questioned by the NIA in the case.

“We suspect financial links between the separatist­s and those raided on Wednesday,” said Alok Mittal, inspector general of NIA.

Before the arrests, the anti-terrorism investigat­ing agency conducted the first round of searches across Kashmir, Delhi, and Haryana looking for evidence of separatist leaders and businessme­n receiving funds from Hafiz Saeed, who heads the Jamaat-ud-Dawa group, and other Pakistan-based militant outfits.

The agency has alleged money received from Pakistan was being used to fund violence in Kashmir.
