Alwar teacher selected for national ICT award
The union government has selected Rajasthan schoolteacher Imran Khan for national award for teachers for the use of ICT (informational and communication technology) in education for 2016.
The award will be presented at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on Teachers’ Day on September 5 .
Khan, a 36-year-old mathematics teacher at Government Varisth Upadhyay Sanskrit School in Alwar, has developed 72 Android apps, which have been downloaded by more than 8.5 million users.
Khan received a letter from Nigar Fatima Husain, director of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, on August 14, informing him about his selection.
The award will be given to 24 teachers, and Khan is the only one from Rajasthan.
The award recognises efforts to promote computer-enabled learning and use of ICT in teaching in government and government-aided secondary and sen- ior secondary schools.
Khan is a member of the technical advisory of an institute under the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY). He was roped in to develop mobile applications for the ministry under the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), the human resources development arm of the MeitY.
In November 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his name in his address at the iconic Wembley stadium in London. Khan was invited to the at-home reception hosted by the President on the Independence Day. HTC
