After an alleged admission scam surfaced in private medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh in Master of Dental Sciences (MDS), the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University has now directed 10 private medical colleges and one government medical college to submit admission related documents by August 28, MP Medical Science University vice chancellor RS Sharma told HT.

A university committee had found that seven colleges had given admission to 96 candidates in MDS who had not appeared in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET. The university now wants to check all the colleges to see whether more candidates have taken admission without NEET.

Sharma said that seven private colleges allegedly allowed admission of 96 candidates, who had not appeared in NEET, to MDS course under management quota. He said this prompted them to institute an inquiry and constitute a three-member committee, which has been directed to present its report within seven days.Vikram University vicechancellor SS Pandey will head the committee while Barkatullah University vice-chancellor PK Verma and MP Medical Science University’s executive council member CK Shukla are the other members.

Sharma said that for admission in MDS, candidates have to provide details online. “The candidate has to open an account on the university portal and upload the scans of the required documents. After this the dean of the college concerned verifies these documents. The admission is provided on the basis of the allotment letter issued by the department of medical education, the documents related to appearing for NEET, its mark sheet and migration certificate. This is the set procedure for admission. But our committee found 96 candidates had been provided admission without NEET,” he said.

The NEET is an entrance examination for students seeking admission to any graduate medical course like MBBS and BDS or postgraduate courses like MD, MS and MDS in government or private medical colleges. NEET replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS tests conducted by states or colleges in 2013.

MP Medical Science University officer on special duty, Tripti Gupta, said that 113 candidates had applied online for the MDS course, out of which only 17 produced the allotment letter issued by the department of medical education. “Rest of the 96 candidates hadn’t produced any allotment letter or NEET marks sheet,” she said.
