In a bizarre incident, a tantrik dug out the body of an 8-year old boy from grave in an attempt to restore him to life at Gujara Kala village in Dholpur district on Friday.

The boy was bitten by a venomous snake on Thursday evening while he was sitting in the backyard of his house.

The frightened child told his parents about the bite who, instead of taking him to a hospital, took him to a temple outside the village and prayed for several hours, locals said.

When the prayers failed, the boy’s parents and other villagers took the boy to quacks in the village, but to no avail.

The child succumbed to the snakebite in the wee hours of Friday and was later buried outside the village.

Despite the burial, the desperate kin later called a tantrik from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh in the hope of reviving the boy.

A few hours after, the tantric, along with 5-6 of aides, arrived and dug out the boy’s body.

He applied a paste of neem leaves on the body, stuffed some herb in the nose, put burning dung cakes around the body, but in vain.

Santosh Sharma, an assistant sub-inspector with the Kanchanpur police station, said that it were boy’s relatives in Mumbai who had advised the boy’s parents to call the tantric from Morena.

“They did all their rituals but later expressed their inability to revive the boy and left in late evening. Some villagers said that the boy’s body had become warm and soft, but could not be fully revived,” said Sharma.
