UP cops arrest online fraudster from B’luru
A fraudster who floated over a dozen applications online (mimicking those issued by the central government and banks) and then stole bank details of people, was arrested from Bengaluru, said Moradabad police.
The fraudster purchased goods using the bank details and then sold them to earn money. “We arrested Mohatir Mohammad, 27, for online fraud from his rented apartment in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He is a native of Motihari district in Bihar and a college drop-out,” said superintendent of police (SP), crime, Moradabad, Archana Singh who headed the investigation.
Reportedly, Mohatir withdrew Rs 25,000 from a jeweller’s account in Moradabad in December last year after the banker installed an application developed by him and entered his bank details. “The jeweller registered a police case. The crime branch is handling the probe,” said the SP.
According to investigators, the accused is an expert in coding mobile applications and has floated over a dozen applications online which can be downloaded. “Half of these applications mimic the appearance of official applications like BHIM and gullible people download them. Once downloaded, the application acts as data source and records the bank details entered by user. The accused used this information for online payments and purchase things online,” said the officer.
