Man held for raping 5-year-old

THE ACCUSED ENTERED VICTIM’S HOUSE WHEN HER PARENTS WERE WORKING IN THE FIELDS ON THE PRETEXT OF CHARGING A MOBILE PHONE AND RAPED HER

Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly raping a five-yea-old girl while she was sleeping alone at her house at Mau Village in Prarapgarh district in Udaipur.

The accused Devla Meena(25) of the same village entered victim’s house on Tuesday evening when her parents were working in the fields located few meters away from the house and she was sleeping alone inside her house, additional superinten­dent of police Ratan Lal Bhargav said.

Bhargav added that the accused entered the victim’s house on the pretext of charging his mobile phone’s battery but when he saw the girl his intensions changed and he allegedly raped her. It was when she screamed loudly that her parents rushed to their house where they found their daughter lying on the floor injured and the accused had fled.

Later, neighbours of the victim rushed to the house for help, some one from the crowd informed the police about the mishap after which the cops came and started a man hunt for the accused.

The girl was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The police team conducted a series of raids to arrest the accused. They finally nabbed him on Wednesday from a house at Pratapura village under Salamgarh police station of the district, said Bhargav.

The accused has been booked under various sections of IPC and is being interrogat­ed.

As per data from National Crime Records Bureau, the crime rate against women rose from 41.7% to 53.9%, between 2011 and 2015. Up to 3,27,394 cases were reported in 2015 alone, including 34,651 cases of rape, 4,437 cases of attempted rape, 59,277 kidnapping and abductions, 7,634 dowry deaths, and a whopping 1,13,403 cases of domestic cruelty, among others.
