Stir disrupts normal life in Nagaur
The farmers protesting over their demands in Nagaur district on Wednesday blocked all subsidiary roads connecting to the national highways, bringing vehicular traffic to a standstill and throwing life out of gear.
The farmers are agitating over their demands, including waiver of farm loans, for the past 14 days.
“We will not bow out unless government meets our demands,” said Bhagirath Yadav, a leader of the protesting farmers. “Because of the government policies, farmers have been pushed even below than the most oppressed sections of the social system. The market driven economy has left us in a parched state. We are left with no means to give our children good education, food or health,” he added.
The farmers’ protest left a large number of people stranded at bus stands, as the bus service of Rajasthan Roadways remained suspended on the Kuchaman mega-highway and Nagaur-Bikaner highway passing through the district. The agitation also hit the supply of essential commodities such as vegetables, fruits and milk.
Meanwhile, Ajmer farmers, who are on a dharna since September 10, are also planning to intensify their protest in the form of a mahapadav from September 21. “We want all the moong produce of the district be purchased by the government at MSP (minimum support price) and implementation of Dr Swaminathan report in letter and spirit,” said Rampal Jat, president, Kisan Mahapanchayat.
Keeping in view the farmers’ protest, the police are on a high alert.
