Two students caught smoking marijuana in hostel, probe on
Two students of the Central University of Rajasthan were caught smoking marijuana at a varsity hostel a couple of days back.
The matter came to light after the university authorities expelled the duo.
The university authorities are trying to hush-up the incident and did not report the matter to police.
“It is an internal matter of the university and we will sort it out ourselves,” said the university registrar.
Sources in the university said there are many students, including girls are into drugs and it is easily available in shops outside the university campus.
It seems students are under stress and are taking drugs to ease their stress, said Tarun Sharma, a sociologist.
“We cannot rule out if more students are addicted to drugs,” he said.
Asked if the university’s action to expel the students was correct, he said: “Expulsion is not a solution. Rather the university should have taken measures to reform them.”
Inspector general of police (Ajmer range) Malini Agarwal said police would initiate an inquiry into the incident.
“We have got information about use of Marijuana by students of the Central University.
“We will investigate the matter to find out from where the boys got the contraband, and if marijuana is available in the shops outside the university campus or if drug peddlers are supplying it to students,” he said.
