The Childline Kota and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Tuesday rescued a two-yearold twins ,whom their mother had tied to the railing of a park in the city before going away to beg.

Childline Kota coordinator Bhupendra Singh said the helpline for children got information that two small children without clothes on their bodies were lying in a park opposite the Bheemganjmandi police station, after which a Childline team, along with the CWC members, reached the park in the evening and rescued the children, Singh said.

“While one leg of the two-yearold boy was found tied with a cotton string, the girl’s leg was found tied with a plastic wire,” he said.

Apparently, the woman had tied the children to prevent them from moving from the park, the CWC members and Childline team said

“Since the children were naked and vulnerable to mishaps, the Childline team and CWC members rescued them and sent to a shelter home in Kota,” he said.

Later, the mother, Babita (32), reached the spot and requested the Childline team and CWC members to free her children.

“Since the mother had left her children in neglected condition, we have asked her to appear before the CWC to get her children back,” said Singh.

Residents of the neighbourhood said that Babita would usually tie her children in the park before going away for begging from early in the morning until late in the evening and then come and untie them

Residents said that the woman along with her children , lived in the park as her husband left her sometime back and married another woman.

Even since her husband left her and her children, the woman took to begging to make a living to feed her children, they said.
