Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has refused a payout of €1 million from Paris SaintGermain (PSG) to let Neymar take penalties, according to a report in Spanish daily El Pais.

The daily has claimed that the 30-year-old striker was offered the amount as bonus should he finish as leading scorer in the French top division. But Cavani has rebuffed the offer.

Neymar and Cavani had a public spat over the taking of a penalty in the Ligue 1 game against Lyon last week, which PSG went on to win 2-0. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now spent time with Cavani and his representatives to try and figure out a deal, but has been unsuccessful so far.

PSG players, according to the report, are backing the former Palermo man as it was him who was the designated penalty taker before the arrival of the Brazilian for a world record fee from FC Barcelona.

to Montpellier, as they were held to a goalless draw. Neymar missed the match due to a toe injury.

Montpellier managed to grab a point after a spirited display against a star-studded side who had won their previous six league games.

PSG’s expensively-assembled squad had plenty of possession but they had to contend with a patchy, bumpy pitch and a compact Montpellier side that looked dangerous on the break. PSG were clearly missing Neymar while Cavani had PSG’s best chance of the match but the Uruguayan missed the ball completely as he attempted to meet a low cross in the box.
