A mobile application has been developed to keep college students in Rajasthan informed about current affairs and developments related to academics, officials said.

The app, Dishari, is likely to be launched in the first week of October, said a senior official of the state college education commissionerate.

Dishari has been developed by Imran Khan, a web developer from Alwar who was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at Wembley Stadium in London in November 2015. Khan had made several educational apps free of cost for students. “The app intends to gamify learning and has quizzes on general knowledge, geography, history, mathematical aptitude, reasoning, etc. To incentivise its use, the app will maintain a list of top scorers and also felicitate them,” the official said.

“The app will send notifications to students about competitive exams, placement fairs, government schemes, and any other information that we want to convey to students,” said Ananta Mathur, joint director, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Rajasthan.

The app will enable two-way communication and the commissionerate will get feedback from students, Mathur said.

The app has been made in Hindi for a wider outreach; it is now going through data validation. The objective of the app is to reach out to maximum number of students, including those from rural background, said Ashutosh AT Pednekar, commissioner, college education. “Those who don’t have a smartphone can access it from a computer.”

Though the app has been developed keeping in mind the students, it can be downloaded and used by anyone. The person will have to register for the app, giving his basic details. At later stages, the app will be used to gauge the interests and inclinations of students.

The app is being developed under RUSA’s Dishari scheme for capacity building and coaching of students. Apart from the app, about 3500 students of the state’s top 10 colleges are being trained under the scheme on a pilot basis.
