CHANDIGARH: They are not suspects, but we are getting the profiling done to rule out involvement of others

NV JADALE, SSP, Chandigarh

More than two months after a resident of Sector 37 was booked for the rape of his 10-year-old niece, and two weeks after the 45-year-old’s DNA did not match that of the child the girl delivered, the police are getting DNA profiling of the two main accused done again.

In addition to the two accused, blood samples of six more people who had access to house of the rape victim have also been sent for DNA test. Police sources said it takes around 45 days to get the report of the DNA test, but the police will try and expedite these in this case.

HT had exclusively highlighted on September 11, that the DNA report was negative and that ‘paternity of the accused was excluded’ from this case.

The DNA report had turned to be a game-changer and led to widening of the investigation. Following this, the police had arrested the younger brother of the accused too for the rape of the victim. One of the real brothers worked as a cook and the other as a guard.

“Both the brothers had been raping the girl. The girl is too young and thus she could not share this. DNA profiling will also rule out the involvement of others,” said Nilambari Vijay Jagdale, SSP Chandigarh.
