3 of Mogya gang that cut women’s legs to steal jewellery arrested

: The Tonk police have arrested three people involved in around three dozen cases of murder, theft and loot, said officials on Tuesday.

According to the police, the arrested trio belongs to the notorious Mogya gang, which targeted elderly people and would often cut the legs of women in order to decamp with jewellery that they wore.

“Special teams were constituted to arrest people involved in such heinous crimes following which the officials were on the lookout for the men and gathered intelligence about them through various sources,” said the additional director of police, crime, Pankaj Kumar Singh.

The police said that the arrested trio has been identified as Ramswaroop (25), Mukesh (21) and Radheshyam (20). All three of them are from the Mogya community, said officials.

“The three were involved in a slew of heinous crimes in various districts of the state such as Tonk, Pali, Nagaur, Alwar, Jaipur, Sikar and Ajmer. We had to arrest them on the basis of traditional sources of intelligence as they don’t use mobile phones,” said Tonk SP Preeti Jain.

During preliminary investigation, it was also learnt that the accused were involved in the murder of an elderly couple in Sojat City in March this year.

“In most cases, the men would target elderly couples and often cut their legs to steal the silver and gold jewellery that they wear. In countless cases, they would first murder the woman before cutting her legs,” said inspector general of police, Ajmer range, Malini Agarwal.

The police said that the father of Mukesh, one of the arrested men, has 43 cases registered against him.

“At present, there are 12 cases registered against Mukesh and we suspect that more will come up during the investigation,” said Jain.

Among the other two accused, Ramswaroop has 20 cases registered against him while Radheshyam has two cases registered against him.
