- HT Correspondent htraj@hindustantimes.com

members — four children and one adult — of a family were murdered in the early hours of Tuesday at Shivaji Park Colony. The assailants fled on a scooty. The reason for the murder is unknown but a family member hinted at enmity over a piece of land among the relatives.

Banwarli Lal Sharma (45), his sons Aman (17), Happy (15) and Ajju (12) and his cousin Nikki (10) were murdered with sharp-edged weapons when they were fast asleep, Alwar superintendent of police Rahul Prakash said.

Banwari Lal, who is from Garu Village under Kathumar police, used to work with at an electrical equipment company and was staying at Shivaji Park for the last two years.

According to the police, all five victims were asleep in one room while Banwari’s wife Santosh, sister-in-law Kavita and a child was sleeping on the first floor.

The women came to know about the incident in the morning when they discovered the bodies lying in a pool of blood.

Prakash said that during the initial enquiry shows that there were no signs of a confrontation before the stabbing, which points to the fact that something may have been given to them to render them unconsciousness or unable to react to the attack. The attacker may be known to them, said the SP.

Kavita has said that there was enmity over agriculture land with her father-in-law’s brother.

BJP and Congress leaders visited the spot.

The SP said that a team has been sent to Banwari’s village. Postmortem has been conducted on four and the bodies have been handed over to their kin.
