Dan Singh was murdered on September 11 at his home in Saras intersection, under Mathura Gate police station.

Police said that two sharpshooters Prahalad Singh (28) and Shakir Mev (27) killed the Congress leader on the orders of his opponent, Ratan Singh’s son Anek Singh (25). The shooters had been given ₹2 lakh supari.

The enmity between the two families started in 2015 when Anek Singh’s wife, Gudiya Devi, registered a complaint against Dan Singh’s son Gajendra Singh and alleged that he had shot a video of her bathing and was blackmailing her with it. He had also raped her, she alleged.

In 2015, Ratan Singh had tried to get Dan Singh killed. However, he had survived. The police had then arrested Ratan Singh and his wife Ombati Devi (52) and daughter-in-law Guddi Devi (45). The two women were out on bail while Ratan Singh is still in jail.

Police on Wednesday arrested Anek Singh, Ombati Devi and Guddi Devi.

Bharatpur superintendent of police (SP) Anil Kumar Tank said that police teams, led by additional superintendent of police Bharat Lal Meena, rural circle officer Dharmendra Singh, were formed to arrest the accused. SHOs of 10 police stations and other officials went through CCTV footage and were successful in arresting the accused after identifying the owner of the motorcycle left at the spot by the accused, said Tank.

Ratan Singh had hired Prahalad and offered ₹2 lakh cash and had given ₹ 40,000 as advance. Prahalad had taken help from another shooter Shakir Mev.

The 55-year-old Congress block president, who is a native of Sabora village, was living at the Civil Lines in Bharatpur city. During the shooting on September 11, Dan Singh’s son, Gajendra Singh, was also attacked with a sharp weapon.
