‘Child sex abuse is a moral epidemic’

: Child labour is denying children of their dreams and there is no bigger crime in this world than killing their dreams, said Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, while speaking at the Rajasthan Police Academy in Jaipur on Wednesday.

Satyarthi was conferred the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan in 2014.

In his address ‘Surakshit Bachpan Surakshit Bharat’ at the academy, Satyarthi said, “The children never created borders or war and yet the world that we leave behind for them is full of hatred and violence.” Satyarthi’s movement and activism for child rights have benefited over 85,000 children across the world.

Satyarthi said that sexual offences against children have emerged as a pandemic and surprising­ly in 70 per cent cases family members are involved.“The big challenge that lies ahead is fighting sexual abuse of children. It’s a moral epidemic that, of late, has gone deeper and wider,” he said . He was addressing a gathering of police officials, NGO persons and school principals.
