SOCIETY’S ROLE KEY TO IMPROVE SEX RATIO, SAYS MAHESHWARI
Speaking at an event on International Day of Girl Child, higher and technical education minister Kiran Maheshwari said that the society has to work towards ensuring safety and happiness of girls to increase the sex ratio.
The event was organised by National Health Mission and College Education department at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan on Wednesday. According to Maheshwari, the onus of protecting girls should not just be on the government but on every section of the society.
Maheshwari said that the society has to change its mindset and honour girls. Daughters are making their mark and moving ahead and they are the ones to shape a better future.
There has been a significant rise in the number of girls studying in government colleges from 1.36 lakh to 1.75 lakh in the last three years.
Health Minister Kali Charan Saraf said that the child sex ratio has improved after the implementation of the pre conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique Act. The state so far has done 93 decoy operations including 23 interstate ones.
11,980 inspections were done till July 2017 in 2,823 sonography centres during which 196 centres were suspended and 431 cancelled. Seizure and seal of 499 centres have been done. Registration of 21 doctors have been suspended by the Rajasthan Medical Council.
The event was addressed by minister of State for health Banshidhar Khandela, Rajasthan Commission for Woman chairperson Suman Sharma and National Health Mission chief Naveen Jain.
