Why no murder FIR registered in Anandpal case: HC asks govt

- HT Correspondent htraj@hindustantimes.com

The Rajasthan high court on Thursday issued notice to the state government for not registering a murder case in connection with gangster Anandpal Singh’s encounter.

The court was hearing a petition filed by slain gangster’s wife Raj Kanwar. In her petition, she said she had filed an FIR against police officers involved in the encounter for fair investigation, but police were yet to register the FIR.

During the hearing, Kanwar’s counsel Gordhan Singh told the court that police did not comply with guidelines of the Supreme Court after the alleged encounter.

He said there were many questions needed to be answered by police regarding the alleged encounter.

“There is also suspicion about police officers’ mobile location during the alleged encounter,” he said.

On this, Justice Pankaj Bhandari asked the state government to file a reply.

Anandpal, 47, was killed during a raid by the special operation group of Rajasthan police at Malasar village in Churu district on June 24. His body was kept in freezer for 20 days as his family demanded a CBI probe.

The state government has accepted the demand after fierce demonstration on the encounter in several places in the state. The central probe agency, however, has not registered a case yet.
