Road works worth Rs 963 crore will start soon in the National Capital Region, including Alwar, chief minister Vasundhara Raje said on Saturday.

Tenders will be floated soon and 38 roads will be revamped with the help of the National Capital Region Planning Board, she said during a jan samvad with representatives of various communities at Shajahanpur in Mundawar assembly segment.

Raje said she had met union housing and urban work minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Delhi and requested him to approve development of 38 roads in the NCR area.

By-elections are to be held in Alwar and Ajmer Lok Sabha and Mandalgarh assembly seats. After many visits to Ajmer, Raje turned her attention to Alwar to gear up the BJP for the polls and address grievances of communities to garner their support.

The CM reached Mundawar around noon, and met leaders of Rajput, Brahmin, Gujjar, Ahir, Vaishya, Prajapat, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities. Representatives of the communities raised before Raje pending compensations for land acquired in 2013 for the construction of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The industrial project has been a non-starter in Rajasthan after land was acquired from 10 villages.

Raje directed the district collector to hold a meeting with public representatives and resolve the problem of farmers.

Most of the locals have neither got monetary compensation nor the commercial land they were promised. The compensation was announced in 2015 but despite agitations by the people, they have not got the money.

“Compensations worth Rs 3,500 crore have not been given and we are stuck as we can neither sell the land nor use it,” said Hem Singh Chauhan (40).

Rajput and Brahmin leaders raised the demand for 14% reservation on economic criteria. Sanjay Sharma (45) from Jonaycha Kala village said he urged the CM to field a Brahmin candidate in Alwar by-election.

Dhirendra Gupta said the Vaishyas were facing hardships in business.
