‘They were discussing whether to kill me’
The 19-year-old UPSC aspirant, who was gang raped by four on Tuesday, said she heard the men debating whether to kill or kidnap her for ransom.
“I did not tell them about my father, who is a cop, otherwise they would have murdered me,” the girl told the Hindustan Times on Saturday.
“The men slapped me and asked about my parents. They wanted to find out if I belonged to a well-to-do family and would lodge complaint. I overheard them debating whether to kill me or kidnap me for ransom. I lied that my mother was a tailor and my father a labourer and that I lived in Vidisha. When convinced that I belonged to a poor family, they spared my life. One of them even brought a dress for me,” the girl said.
The RPF officials asserted that the rape could have been averted had the railway authorities sanctioned construction of a wall near the Habibganj station to prevent unauthorised entry.
A senior RPF official said, “We had written to the railway administration five years back for construction of the wall to prevent unauthorised entry. We also urged the local administration to raze the adjacent slums that have come up illegally. Unfortunately nothing happened.” Incidentally, at least two of the accused live in that slum.
Meanwhile, Bar Association president Rajesh Vyas said lawyers held a meeting and decided that they wouldn’t represent the accused in the gang rape case.
BHOPAL:
‘RAPE A BLOT ON GOVT’
The Congress on Saturday said the gang rape in the heart of the state capital was a “blot” on the BJP goverment in MP.
Leader of Opposition in the assembly Ajay Singh slammed police for its lackadaisical attitude in registering a complaint of the survivor.
“CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan should pull up his home minister as well as the DGP as the shameful incident took place right in the middle of the city and is a blot on the face of the BJP government,” he said. “If such a serious crime can take place in the state capital, and police dilly-dally on filing an FIR, then one can imagine the situation in rural areas,” the Congress MLA said.
