Amid the buzz of former Congress leader Narayan Rane joining the Devendra Fadnavisled BJP government in Maharashtra, it has come to light that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray met NCP chief Sharad Pawar to discuss the current political situation in the state a few days ago.

Though Pawar refused to divulge details, he said it appeared that Thackeray was not interested in continuing as an ally of the BJP in the state government. “I feel Uddhav Thackeray is not interested in continuing with the (BJP-led) state government,” Pawar told reporters on the sidelines of two-day conclave of his party organised to deliberate on its future plans.

Sources close to Pawar confirmed that Thackeray asked for the NCP chief’s views in case Shiv Sena decided to snap ties with BJP and withdrew support from the Fadnavis government. Pawar replied that he will take

KARJAT:

his decision only after Sena makes the move, said a senior NCP leader, requesting anonymity.

The meeting between the duo was held at Silver Oak, Pawar’s residence in Mumbai, around 10 days back. Pawar confirmed that Thackeray paid him a visit but refused to give details of what transpired between them.

Sena is currently upset with the BJP over Rane’s likely induction in the state government as a minister. The party, time and again, has been openly opposing Rane’s possible move. Once a senior leader of Sena, Rane is now a staunch opponent of Uddhav and had quit his party with a group of MLAs after criticising his leadership.

A reaction from the Shiv Sena is awaited.
