women commission, BJP president and education minister on Wednesday expressed reservation about the movie Padmavati.

An FIR was also registered against three people in Bikaner for allegedly posting derogatory remarks on queen Padmavati, police said, while the Rajput Karni Sena called for a pan-India strike if the movie is released on December 1.

The Rajasthan state commission for women (RSCW) has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to “clear the confusion” over the film.

“There is a lot of confusion over the film and the ensuing protests have also resulted in a law and order challenge for the state. I have asked the censor board to clear this confusion and clarify that there is no wrong portrayal of women in the film,” said Suman Sharma, chairperson of the commission.

State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ashok Parnami said any tampering with the state’s history won’t be tolerated.

“Earlier too this issue had come up and Rajasthan has its own history comprising many brave women such as Meera Bai. If anybody tampers with Rajasthan’s history we won’t tolerate that. The chief minister has also said that no distortion of history will be allowed,” said Parnami.

In a Facebook post, higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari wrote, “Rani Padmini is a symbol of women’s self respect and valour and her insult won’t be tolerated by anyone. Constitution doesn’t allow anybody to hurt the cultural dignity with fictional, fake and misguiding facts.”

In Bikaner, an FIR was registered against three persons for allegedly posting derogatory remarks on queen Padmavati and goddess Durga on Facebook after a complaint, police said .

Station house officer of Panchu police station Kanhaiyalal told HT that the case has been registered under section 153 (A) and 295 (A) of the IPC.

Expanding its plans for a statewide bandh on November 30, the Rajput Karni Sena has called for a pan-India shutdown the next day to oppose what they call is a distorted representation of history in the movie.
