Electric crematorium in Bharatpur, free this year
BHARATPUR:An URBAN IMPROVEMENT TRUST RECEIVED THE ₹33 L MACHINE FROM THE STATE GOVERNMENT AND HANDED OVER IT TO THE CIVIC BODY
electric crematorium has been set up for the first time in the divisional headquarters in Bharatpur on Thursday, to cremate human bodies, reduce pollution and save firewood, officials said.
The Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) received the ₹33 lakh machine from the Rajasthan government and handed it over to the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation.
The gas-fired machine has been set up at the Kumher Gate crematorium, said UIT secretary Laxmikant Balot.
A work order for ₹46 lakh was sent to the state government to provide the crematorium machine, Balot said.
Officials of the UIT and the Municipal Corporation visited the crematorium for the first trial run of the machine.
Bharatpur mayor Shiv Singh Bhont, who was with the team that visited the crematorium, said the Corporation will not charge any fee for using the crematorium from people for a year.
Cremating a dead body will require two domestic cylinders of gas and will cost a little more than ₹ 2,000 and only one body will be cremated at a time, he said.
“We will have to apply for three phase of power connection, ten gas connection to operate the machine.”
The civic body will face challenges to convince residents to understand the benefits and the concept of an electric crematorium machine, he said.
