Collector has ordered an inquiry after a video of employees drinking inside the office of the joint-director of education department, Jabalpur, went viral.

Those involved included the head clerk and many of his subordinates, computer operators and even a retired employee of the department.

All of them were working overtime to prepare for the forthcoming Winter Session of the Assembly’s question-answer segment.

Sources said this was not a one-off thing, and had been happening at regular intervals in the office after duty hours, and the participants, too, were more or less the same group of people.

The seniors had received complaints on earlier occasions and had warned those involved not to indulge in this activity.

The collector, Mahesh Chandra Choudhary, has ordered an inquiry which will be conducted by sub-divisional magistrate Sanjana Jain.

“I will have to check the video and if found guilty, action will be taken against the offenders,” Jain said.

In charge joint-director of the education department, SD Marawi said he would discuss the matter with the divisional commissioner and then decide upon the action to be taken against the accused.

Drinking inside the office premises is against Rule 3 of MP Civil Service Act 1965-66.
