GODSE STATUE REMOVED FROM MAHASABHA OFFICE IN MP
The Gwalior district administration along with the local police on Tuesday removed a bust of Nathuram Godse that was installed by the Hindu Mahasabha at its Daulatganj office in Madhya Pradesh.
The right-wing outfit had set up the idol on November 15, leading to protests from social activists and the Congress.
The district administration had issued a notice to the Hindu Mahasabha over the setting up of the bust but the organization did not submit a reply. Local authorities gave the outfit an hour to remove the bust on Tuesday afternoon and when it did not comply, Kotwali police removed the idol under the supervision of additional district magistrate (ADM) Shivraj Singh.
“We have been asking them to remove the statue since November 15 but they didn’t remove it. Hindu Mahasabha was asked to reply to the notice on Tuesday morning but they did not. After seizing the statue, the room in which it was kept has been locked by the police,” Singh said.
Although the Hindu Mahasabha did not create any ruckus when the Godse statute was being removed, they called the administration’s action unconstitutional and threatened to launch a state-wide protest against it.
Earlier on Tuesday, a photo showing canes and sticks kept in the room where Godse’s bust was kept went viral on social media.
“The canes were brought to the shrine to stop Congressmen, who were threatening to remove idol forcefully. Giving ultimatum of an hour is an unconstitutional step. We will launch a protest against it,” Mahashabha member Jaiveer Bhardwaj said.
