The UK-based University of Southampton’s Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) has opened applications for the MSc in Environmental Pollution Control degree. The programme offers an in-depth exploration of scientific basics of pollution and the practical approaches to its control. The programme bestows excellent training opportunities for careers in research and management relating to air, water and waste pollution control.

CES is a collaborative enterprise operating across the University, with inputs from other science disciplines in Biological Sciences, Geography, and Ocean & Earth Science, as well as CES’s home, Engineering and the Environment.

Environmental scientists are at the sharp end of dealing with the challenges that endanger our very existence; managing our natural environment’s sustainably and seeking ways to balance it with economic and social concerns.

The students under theMSc in Environmental Pollution Control degree will work closely with the industry and governments to address some of the key problems facing the world today; including mitigating the effects of, and adapting to climate change, sustainable development, conservation of biodiversity & environmental protection, resource management, and pollution control.

Under this programme, students will work across sectors with engineers, scientists and enthusiasts.

The ability to accurately monitor emissions to the environment and mitigate their harmful impacts sits at the heart of this diverse Environmental Science masters degree, which focuses on developing the professional skills required for a rewarding career as an environmental pollution scientist.

Students will learn to measure and monitor air, water and waste pollution, remediate problems and examine the latest technologies in the field. They will also develop practical skills to apply innovative research techniques, present arguments and understand how research funding works.

Moreover, in each semester students will have an additional option to choose from extra modules like Water and Waste Water Engineering, Coastal Flood Defence, Energy Resources & Engineering, etc. for added knowledge and further specializations. The main aim of this course is to equip its students with a diverse range of professional and transferable skills that help in career building and further research.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have a first class or atleast a second class upper honours degree in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Zoology, Oceanography, Biology, Geology or Physics or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University.Applicants with a first class or atleast an upper second-class honours degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mathematics or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University may also apply. These entries will be subject to admission only after excelling a interview. The prograame is for one year, the course commences in September 2018 and the course fee is £20,550.
