NHM employees continue strike despite termination order
Despite the state government’s direction to protesting National Health Mission (NHM) employees to join duty within 24 hours or face termination, hundreds of NHM employees continued with their protest on Saturday.
As per information, of the total 508 NHM employees in Karnal, 350 are on strike and only 158 joined duties on Saturday.
Local authorities, meanwhile, are awaiting fresh orders to take action against the protesting employees. “We have started the process of creating a list of protesting employees, but there were no directions from the government. We have already hired drivers to resume ambulance services and other posts will also be filled as per the requirement for alternative arrangement,” Karnal chief medical officer (CMO) Yogesh Sharma told Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile in Kurukshetra, out of the 504 NHM employees, 291 did not joined duty. When contacted Kurukshetra CMO SK Nain said they have already been issued notice, making it clear that their services will be terminated if they failed to join duty as per the deadline.
Yamunanagar CMO Dr Kuldeep Singh said, “Out of 567 NHM employees in the district, 231 did not join duty despite the termination notices.” He, however, said that the strike did not impact the health services in the district.
