: In a case of double whammy, a man went to a police station in Jaipur on late Wednesday evening to report theft of a bag, only to find minutes later that his car parked outside too was stolen.

Ali Hasan Panwar, an official in the education department of Rajasthan government, was meeting an event manager on Wednesday evening at a marriage venue near the Officers Training School. Panwar’s own son’s marriage is slated for January 5.

At about 9:30 pm, when he came out, he found that the car door was unlocked and his bag containing chequebook, ATM cards, an ipad and a few other things was missing.

“I immediately reached the Malviya Nagar police station to report the theft along with my wife, daughter and a nephew,” said Panwar.

“The police wished to see the spot from where the bag was stolen. So my nephew and I accompanied the police in their car while my wife and daughter remained at the police station.”

When they returned after some 20-25 minutes, they found that Panwar’s car was missing.

“It was parked right outside the police station, near the board bearing the station’s name,” said Panwar.

Ramesh Kumar, head constable at the police station said that the man left the duplicate key of the car in the vehicle itself. “The thieves probably took it at the time of the first theft and then followed the car,” he added.

Panwar said it was possible that he had left the second key in the car itself as he could not find it at home.

A case of theft against unknown persons has been registered by the police.

“My bag had the second key to my house, and my pen drive too, which has many important documents including copies of my Aadhaar card. The thieves have all my details now,” said Panwar.
