‘Drunk’ woman opens fire at mother, brother
Delhi Police has arrested a 47-year-old state-level shooter for allegedly shooting at her mother and brother at their Defence Colony residence around Thursday midnight.
Preliminary probe revealed that the accused, Sangeeta Singh, was in an inebriated state and used a licenced pistol to allegedly shoot at her family members. A case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) has been registered and further investigation is on.
Police said the victims — Geeta and her son Harsaran — are out of danger. The trio had a heated argument after which the accused opened fire, police said. Investigators suspect the incident could be the result of a property dispute. The father of the accused has told the police that Sangeeta was under depression.
“We are yet to find out the motive. Property dispute could have led to the incident. The victims’ statements would be recorded once we get permission from the doctors. We are waiting,” said a police officer.
The police received the information about firing at 12.43am on Friday after which a team rushed to the spot. “Sangeeta has participated in state level events as a shooter. But over the past one year, she stopped going for her shooting practice sessions and even stopped socialising,” said Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner (south) of Delhi Police .
