MUZAFFARPUR: THE SHO OF MANIYARI, MIHIR KUMAR, WAS CRITICALLY INJURED AND IS UNDERGOING TREATMENT AT SRI KRISHNA MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL AT MUZAFFARPUR

Liquor smugglers attacked and injured six personnel, including the station house officer of Maniyari police station, when a team from two police stations raided Madhopur Susta village under Maniyari police station late on Monday evening.

The SHO of Maniyari, Mihir Kumar, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital at Muzaffarpur. Police said the SHO of Sadar police station, Rajesh Pandit, and others sustained minor injuries.

The attack on police personnel was along the lines of the Samastipur incident in which a police jawan was killed and an SHO injured after liquor smugglers opened fire on a raiding team on November 27. On January 10, two SHOs from Gopalganj were shot and injured at Chenupur village under Paru PS of Muzaffarpur.

Superintendent of police (city), also SSP in charge, Upendra Nath Verma, said he had received specific information about a huge consignment of liqour concealed in Madhopur Susta village.

“I asked the police officials of Sadar and Maniyari police stations to raid the village and recover it. The teams reached the village in the evening but were confronted by a 200-strong mob, equipped with firearms, bamboo sticks, and other lethal weapon. They attacked policemen and also pelted stones. While some of the officials managed to escape, the SHOs of either police stations were caught by the angry mob and beaten up,” said Verma.

He maintained that the entire episode was filmed. “We have registered an FIR against 200 persons and are trying to identify the persons with the help of the video footage,” he said. Maniyari SHO Kumar said the hooligans made him a hostage in his jeep. “They tried to set my vehicle afire after dousing it with kerosene oil.”
