Raj wins gold at national volleyball championsh­ip

JAIPUR: The players kept up their spirit in the national volleyball championsh­ip, that was instilled in them long back during their coaching sessions.

Rajasthan clinched the 20th Youth National Volleyball Championsh­ip title for the first time in the history of this game on Monday evening at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier, Rajasthan had emerged as the runners up.

Defeating Tamil Nadu in the final, Rajasthan bagged the first gold for the state team in Youth national.

The tournament was organised from January 2 to 7.

Manesh Swami, Kishan Kumar, Sachin Shekhwat, Anil Kumar, Manjeet, Praveen Kumar and Paramjeet displayed brilliant performanc­e, while Jhunjhunu’s Paramjeet Singh was declared the best player of the tournament.

Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and Rajasthan Volleyball Associatio­n (RVA) secretary general Ramavtar Singh Jakhar lauded the team for its effort.

“The players kept up their spirit in the national volleyball championsh­ip, that was instilled in them long back during their coaching sessions,” said Jakhar.

He added that a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh has been announced for the winning team.

Another cash prize has also been announced for the junior team that won the national title last year.

The team reached Jaipur on Tuesday evening where they were greeted by Ramavtar Jakhar and Anju Jakhar.

The additional chief secretary and Sports Council chairman, JC Mohanti, too, felicitate­d the team.

In the women section, Kerela bagged gold medal beating SAI in the final.

The Rajasthan team that won the championsh­ip had Sachin Shekhawat, captain, Anil Kumar, Manish Swami, Pravin Kumar, Paramjeet Singh, Kishan Kumar, Jaswant Singh, Manjeet, Wasim Ahmed, Rishupal Singh, Hitesh Samota, Vinod Kumar. Coach-MC James, Prabhulal Jat, PRakash Godara, Akshay Raj Patidar (manager).

BABITA APPOINTS RAJASTHAN WOMEN TEAM CAPTAIN

Babita Meena will be lead the Rajasthan Women T20 cricket team, which is participat­ing in the Senior Women T20 Cricket Tournament. The tournament is to be held from January 12 at Rajkot in Gujarat.

The team will have Sweta Singh, Ayush Garg, Priyanka Sharma, Babita Meena, captain, Sangeeta Kumawat, Tanuj Vaishnav, Jyoti Choudhary, wicketkeep­er, Archana Saini, Riya Tinkar, Sonal Kalal, Sumitra Jat, Suman Meena, Rinku Tak, Sofi Sidhu and Mamta Gurjar.
