JAIPUR: THE POLICE SAID THE ACCUSED ARE POOR AND THEY HAD PLANNED THE LOOT FOR A “GOOD LIFESTYLE”

The district police have arrested four people in connection with the murder of a dairy booth cash collection agent in Jaipur on January 8.

The agent, Omprakash, was killed in the Nandpuri area of the city. Shubham Choudhary (19), Yash Singh Rajput (18), Sunil Kumar (22) and Ankit Saini (21) were arrested on Saturday, Jaipur police commissioner Sanjay Aggarwal announced in a press conference on Monday.

Aggarwal said the accused are poor and they had planned the loot for a “good lifestyle”.

“Among the four accused, Saini ran a dairy booth in Ramnagar area near Nandpuri and was the main conspirator,” the police said. The other three lived in Brahmpuri area. Choudhary knew Saini, as he lived in Ramnagar earlier.

“They planned the loot for two months. They knew that the cash collection does not take place on Sunday. So on Monday the agent collects twice the amount, as compared to any other weekday,” said the commissioner, adding that the accused did a recce on December 18 and December 25.

With the help of CCTV footages, the police found that a “Hunk” motorcycle was used in the crime. The details of the nearly 1,200 Hunk motorcycles sold in Jaipur, along with leads from the police informer network, helped the police zero in on the accused.

Probe revealed that the agent was waylaid around 12.50 pm on January 8 by the three accused, who were waiting for him in a deserted lane. “They hit the agent’s motorcycle with theirs and when he fell, they hit him with a baseball bat and tried to snatch his bag. When the agent protested, Choudhary shot him and fled after taking some money from the bag,” the police said. The agent had ₹8.5 lakh in his bag, out of which the accused took ₹1 lakh.

Saini is in police custody, while the remaining three accused are in judicial custody.
