Heritage evenings at Jaipur’s monuments during lit fest

Jaipur Literature Festival 2018 is set to draw spotlight with music, theatre and cultural performanc­es during two heritage evenings on January 26 and 28, according to a release from the organisers.

The events will be held at Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal in associatio­n with Rajasthan Tourism, to celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage. Entry to the heritage evenings will only be through invitation­s.

“Jaipur Literature Festival’s heritage evenings celebrate the tradition of Rajasthan and highlight its rich cultural and architectu­ral legacy through performing arts,” said Sanjoy Roy, managing director of Teamwork Arts, producer of the festival.

Roy added that with support from Rajasthan Tourism,organisers will present some of the best music and theatre performanc­es.

“These events are exclusivel­y curated to bring our audience closer to Rajasthan’s spellbindi­ng spirit and landscape,” he said.

On January 26, a multimedia dance and theatre production, titled ‘The Troth-Usne Kaha Tha’, will recount the story of love, loss and sacrifice against

the horror of World War I. The release said The Troth features some of UK’s most exciting and versatile young dancers, and will take the audiences from the repose of rural Punjab in the late 1800s to the strife-torn Belgian trenches. The performanc­e will be held at Hawa Mahal.

On January 28, there will be a Majestic Evening at Amber Fort, which will begin with a sarangi recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri. Ustad Kamal Sabri is the son of sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan, who is carrying forward the rich legacy of the Sania gharana of Moradabad. Kamal, who is from the seventh generation of a distinguis­hed family of traditiona­l musicians, has demonstrat­ed profound versatilit­y in playing the sarangi.

This will be followed by Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi- a tribute to the late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, performed by singer, songwriter and composer, Shekhar Ravjiani. The show will bring back to life some of Singh’s legendary ghazals including, ‘Hothon se Choo Lo Tum’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Tumko Dekha’, ‘Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar’, ‘Tum Itna Jo’ and ‘Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo’.
